Iceland is moving to boycott Eurovision 2027 unless Israel is excluded

Bethlehem - Ofoq News - The Board of Directors of Iceland's state broadcaster Radio and Television (RÚV) announced its support for the country's withdrawal from the Eurovision 2027 contest if Israel is allowed to participate in the contest.

According to the official website of the Irish Radio and Television Corporation (RÚV), the relevant decision was taken at the board meeting on September 30.

Six of the nine board members submitted a motion to direct the Director-General of the Authority to notify the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) that Iceland will not participate in the 2027 competition if Israel is not banned from participating.

The decision also reaffirms the European Union's call for broadcasting to exclude Israel from the competition's participants.

It should be noted that at this stage the matter is not about Iceland's unconditional refusal to participate in Eurovision 2027, but rather about the position of the RÚV Board of Directors regarding Israel's participation - as it has been stated that the final decision on the country's participation will depend on further decisions within the framework of the competition.

As a reminder, in 2026 Iceland has already refused to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest amid Israel's participation.

The 2027 Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the Bulgarian city of Burgas from May 12 to 15.
