Ramallah - Ofoq News - The Prisoner’s Club said that prisoner journalist Bushra Al-Taweel (33 years old) faces harsh detention conditions in isolation, as the occupation authorities have continued to isolate her for about 50 days, amid repeated raids on her cell, including beatings and gas spraying, in addition to continuous abuse and insults against her, according to information received following a recent visit to her.
He explained in a statement issued today, Sunday, that Al-Taweel reported that her cell was subjected to repeated raids, including assaults on her, beatings and spraying of gas, the last of which occurred two days before the visit, noting that the abuse and insults against her continued, in light of the presence of surveillance cameras inside her place of detention around the clock.
On the health front, Al-Taweel suffers from dryness in the eyes, skin, and hands, in addition to numbness in her hands as a result of the presence of handcuffs. She was suffering from scabies before she was transferred to isolation, under harsh detention conditions and deprivation of basic needs.
Regarding the living conditions of detention, Al-Taweel confirmed that they are extremely difficult, in light of the lack of sufficient quantities of food, and she is forced to drink water from the tap, even though its color has changed to yellow. She pointed out that she does not have clothes, and is unable to wash her clothes, in addition to the poor quality of the mattress she sleeps on and its extreme dirt, to the point where she feels as if she is sleeping on the floor, in addition to the poor quality of the blanket.
In this context, Al-Taweel reported that she was transferred from “Damoun” prison to the isolation ward in “Ramla” prison, without knowing the reasons for her transfer. On October 4, 2026, she signed papers stating her transfer to “Damoun” prison, but she was surprised that she was transferred to isolation in “Ohli Oz” prison in Beersheba, where she is still detained today.
The occupation authorities had renewed the administrative detention order against Al-Tawil for an additional four months, in the context of continuing to target and pursue her, knowing that she is a journalist and a former prisoner.
The Prisoners' Club confirmed that what Al-Taweel is being subjected to comes in the context of the escalation of systematic targeting policies against female prisoners, through administrative detention, isolation, and abuse, and depriving them of their basic rights, under conditions of detention that affect their dignity and physical and psychological integrity.
He called on international human rights bodies, led by the International Committee of the Red Cross, to intervene urgently to determine the conditions of Al-Taweel’s detention, work to end her isolation, ensure her protection and provide her with the necessary health care, release her, and follow up on the violations committed against her and against female prisoners in the occupation prisons.
