Axios reported on Friday that senior members of US President Donald Trump's government held a secret meeting at the presidential retreat at Camp David to discuss the next steps regarding the war with Iran and the conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi rebels in Yemen. The site quoted informed sources that Vice President J. De Vance chaired the meeting.
The report indicated that the Trump administration did not announce this unusual meeting at all.
The last time a similar meeting was held was in June 2025, just days before Israel launched a war against Iran.
Other participants, according to the report, include: Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, White House envoy Steve Witkoff, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) John Ratcliffe, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Cain.
One of the officials said - referring to the crisis in the Middle East -: “Decisions have been made or at least in-depth discussions have taken place.”
The White House declined to comment.
In light of the faltering negotiations with Tehran, President Trump is considering resuming major combat operations in Iran.
“I now have to make a decision: Either Iran will sign the agreement, or it will no longer exist,” he said on Thursday.
