A video showed scenes of 3 people carrying out the attack on the church in the town of Hammoud in Karak Governorate, southern Jordan.
Scenes from a surveillance camera documented the attack, where three gunmen, some with their faces masked, took turns shooting randomly at a gathering in front of the church during the funeral of a woman from the Halsa family.
The scenes also showed how the gunmen later approached the people in front of the entrance to the church, and began shooting a number of mourners who fled to hide.
While eyewitnesses previously confirmed to Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath that gunmen opened fire randomly at the crowds, after they got out of a pickup truck full of ammunition near them.
While official sources announced that the perpetrators of the attack had a “takfiri background,” according to what was reported on state television, in reference to terrorist organizations.
For its part, Public Security announced that the pursuit of the attackers would continue in Karak until they were arrested, calling on citizens to obtain information from its official sources.
While the attack killed at least 7 and injured 28, according to Public Security, amid calls from local hospitals to donate blood.
Such attacks are considered rare in Jordan, which enjoys relative stability, after being subjected to Iranian attacks this year, against the backdrop of the war between Iran on the one hand and America on the other.
This is also the first time that a terrorist attack has targeted a "religious component" in the country, although the "Karak Castle" had previously been subjected 10 years ago to an attack carried out by ISIS, which led to the killing of Jordanians and a Western tourist, as well as security personnel.
It is noteworthy that Karak Governorate, with a population of approximately 375 thousand people, includes a significant Christian presence of clans such as the Hilsa and the Hijaz, and Christian families are concentrated in certain neighborhoods such as the “Christian Quarter” in the city center.
