The Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Jassim Al-Budaiwi, confirmed that the Council countries are adopting an integrated approach that makes environmental protection a driver for green investment and the creation of quality job opportunities, enhances the competitiveness of their economies and supports the transition to a low-carbon economy, while preserving natural resources for future generations.

His Excellency the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council @jasemalbudaiwi, the GCC countries are adopting an integrated approach that makes environmental protection a driver for green investment and the creation of quality job opportunities, enhances the competitiveness of their economies and supports the transition to a low-carbon economy, while preserving natural resources for future generations. https://t.co/8ZGea61EpE #Cooperation Council

He explained that the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council is working, based on the directives of the leaders of the GCC countries, to strengthen joint Gulf environmental action, through coordination among member states to establish unified environmental policies that are integrated with their economic and development paths.

This came during Al Budawi’s speech at the 28th meeting of the Committee of Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, today, Sunday, October 11, 2026, in the Bahraini capital, Manama, headed by the Minister of Oil and Environment and the Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, Chairman of the current session, Muhammad Mubarak Bin Dinah, and in the presence of the ministers responsible for environmental affairs in the GCC countries.

At the beginning of his speech, the Secretary-General expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, for hosting the 28th meeting of the Committee, praising the facilities and support provided by the Kingdom for the success of the work of the Cooperation Council, and the support that the joint Gulf action receives from the leaders of the Council countries in various fields.

Al-Budaiwi pointed out that the GCC countries have achieved qualitative steps in the field of environmental work in recent years, and their commitments have been translated into ambitious initiatives and pioneering projects. Policies to reduce emissions and increase reliance on renewable energy have become essential pillars of the national path to transition to a low-carbon economy that balances economic growth with the preservation of natural resources.

He added that these efforts represent the result of an integrated Gulf approach that combines the environmental and economic dimensions, and makes environmental protection an effective tool to stimulate investment in value-added green sectors, and a means to create quality job opportunities in the fields of clean energy, modern environmental technologies, and applying the principles of the circular carbon economy.

He explained that this trend contributes to expanding the production base, enhancing the competitiveness of the GCC countries, and achieving sustainable development in its economic, social and environmental dimensions.

He also stressed the importance of unifying Gulf visions and positions in relevant international forums, and enhancing the presence of the GCC countries as an influential and effective bloc in global efforts aimed at confronting climate change and preserving the environment for future generations.

He pointed out that one of the most prominent areas of joint Gulf action currently is the continuous coordination between the GCC countries to deal with some international legislation and measures that have cross-border effects, in a way that preserves the interests of the GCC countries and their competitiveness in global energy markets.
