The White House claims that the change in results with the counting of votes is abnormal

The White House claimed - in a false claim - that it is not normal for the electoral results to change as vote counting continues, in the latest attempt by the administration of President Donald Trump to raise doubts about the electoral process, ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for Tuesday. This comment came in response to a post by the “PBS News” network on the “X” platform, formerly Twitter, in which it said: “If you go to sleep on election night without knowing who won an election race for a seat in Congress, this is normal.

If you wake up the next morning to find that a candidate who was late hours ago has advanced in the results, that is also normal.” The post was attached to a link to an explanatory material explaining the reasons why announcing the final results of the elections may take hours, days, or even weeks.

In a comment on the PBS News post, the White House Rapid Response Account wrote: “No, it is not.” This comes at a time when President Donald Trump has paved the way to challenge the results of the midterm elections. Throughout his election campaign, he repeatedly repeated unfounded allegations about widespread voter fraud.

As a reminder, the information published by PBS News is actually correct. The timing of knowing the election results depends on how long it takes states to announce the results of their election races.

According to the Bipartisan Policy Center, an independent think tank, although election officials can begin publishing unofficial results immediately after polls close, those results are subject to careful scrutiny over the following days and weeks. The Center also indicates that the results are officially approved at a later time at the local and state levels.
