The Algerian President opposes the United Arab Emirates: “Severing relations is irreversible”

Algeria - Ofoq News - Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune confirmed, during his regular meeting with the national press, that Algeria is adhering to its decision to sever diplomatic relations with the UAE, stressing that this decision came after matters had gone beyond their limits.

Tebboune accused the Emirati government of trying to control Algeria, saying: “We founded the Emirati Oil Company, and now Abu Dhabi seeks to exercise tyranny to dominate us.”

He stressed the importance of national sovereignty, noting that Algeria is “a pure land for which millions of martyrs sacrificed, and I have no right to sell it to anyone.”

Tebboune also added: “We welcome those who deal according to the laws, but whoever attempts tyranny is wrong.”

In another context, Tebboune spoke about the rights of the Sahrawi people, stressing that no one can force them to give them up. He pointed out that the UN Security Council calls for finding a solution that satisfies the Polisario Front and Morocco, considering Algeria and Mauritania as observant countries in this issue.

He also explained that Algeria expresses its opinion when consulted by American friends, but the final decision rests with the Sahrawis who are negotiating with Morocco about their rights.

It is noteworthy that Algeria announced last September 10 that it was severing relations with the Emirates, and gave the Emirati ambassador a 48-hour period to leave the country. It also decided to close its airspace to Emirati aircraft, with the exception of commercial flights, until the end of 2026.

Algeria described this decision as coming after exhausting all means to maintain relations, accusing Abu Dhabi of a series of “provocative and hostile actions.”
