The Saudi Ministry of Health has reported a nearly 30% increase in intensive care admissions related to respiratory infections over the past three weeks, compared to the previous period, coinciding with the onset of the respiratory virus season.
The ministry explained that the increase in infection cases is part of the expected seasonal activity of respiratory viruses, urging the enhancement of preventive measures and the uptake of recommended vaccines to reduce the chances of severe illness and complications.
The Ministry of Health pointed out that the rise in intensive care cases coincides with increased activity of several respiratory viruses during the season, emphasizing the importance of receiving the seasonal influenza vaccine and the respiratory syncytial virus vaccine for the targeted groups, by booking an appointment through the 'Sehati' app.
It called for maintaining hand hygiene, adhering to cough and sneeze etiquette, ventilating closed spaces, as well as wearing masks and reducing contact with others when respiratory symptoms appear.
The ministry identified the groups most at risk of influenza complications, including those with chronic diseases, individuals over the age of 50, children aged 6 months to 5 years, pregnant women, those with obesity, as well as healthcare workers.
The Ministry of Health confirmed its ongoing efforts in collaboration with health system entities to enhance prevention, raise awareness, and reduce the spread of infection.
