Shin Bet reveals a plan for attacks in Beersheba and arrests 5 Palestinians from the Negev

Tel Aviv - Ofoq News - The Israeli General Security Service (Shin Bet) and the Israeli police announced the arrest of five people from Shaqib al-Salam in the Negev, on suspicion of forming an armed structure and planning to carry out attacks inside Israel.

According to what was reported by the Israeli Security Service, investigations that took place during the months of May and June 2026 revealed efforts to form what the authorities described as a “military battalion” in Shaqib al-Salam, inspired by armed formations in the West Bank.

Authorities said that members of the group discussed carrying out attacks in several ways, including shooting at the police station in Shaqib al-Salam, and carrying out a knife attack and shooting at the central station in the city of Beersheba.

She added that one of the suspects was seeking to assume a role related to manufacturing the devices, while the authorities accused another suspect of planning to carry out an attack using an explosive device after his release from detention, and of sympathizing with the Islamic State.

In a separate case, the Shin Bet said that in July 2026, the authorities arrested Abdullah Jarjawi, an Israeli citizen and resident of Shaqib al-Salam, on suspicion of incitement and planning to carry out an attack in the Forum Club in the city of Beersheba.

According to the Israeli authorities, investigations showed that Jarjawi was connected to people associated with the Islamic State, and that he expressed a desire to join the organization’s battlefields outside Israel.

72 arrests in the Negev since the beginning of the year

The Shin Bet said that 72 suspects have been arrested for investigation into security issues in southern Israel since the beginning of 2026, noting that 67 of them are Israeli citizens with blue ID cards.

He added that about 50 of the total detainees had been indicted in cases he described as related to terrorism, weapons smuggling, and attempts to carry out attacks.
