The Greek media celebrated the crowning of its compatriot, Georgios Donis, as Gulf Cup champion with the Saudi national team, after he led the “Greens” to victory over the Emirates 2-0 in the final match on Tuesday.

Most of the coverage focused on achieving the first title in his career at the national team level, as the “Sport24” website titled: “Donis achieves his first title at the international level with Saudi Arabia,” noting that the Greek coach led the Saudi team to its fourth title in the Gulf Cup and its first after a long absence.

The site added that Saudi Arabia entered the final match strongly and settled matters early by scoring two goals, so that Denis celebrated his first title at the head of the coaching staff of a national team.

As for the Greek website "Gazzetta", the headline was "Georgios Donis... won the cup with Saudi Arabia," and wrote that the coach celebrated his first title as coach of a national team, after he led "Al-Akhdar" to victory over the Emirates in Jeddah and lifted the Gulf Cup for the fourth time in Saudi history.

The "Sportal" website followed the same approach, as the title of its report was "Donis lifts the cup with Saudi Arabia," and said that the Greek coach led the Saudi team to the summit of the Gulf Cup.

The website indicated that the coronation is the first for Saudi Arabia in the tournament after a long absence, and it also represents the first title for Donis at the head of the technical staff of a national team.

The “SDNA” website chose to highlight the Saudi national team’s connection to its Greek coach in its title, saying: “Saudi Donis lifts the Arabian Gulf Cup,” stressing that “Al-Akhdar” achieved its first title with Donis on the bench after he imposed his control over the final match and maintained his lead until the final whistle.

Donis's experience with Saudi Arabia is the first in his career at the national team level, after he spent his coaching career among clubs, and led several teams, most notably Al-Hilal, Al-Fateh, Al-Khaleej and Al-Wahda in Saudi Arabia, Panathinaikos, PAOK and AEK Athens in Greece, and APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus, before he took over as coach of the "Green" club before the start of the World Cup, winning the Gulf Cup in his first international experience.
