A recent UN report revealed that more than 5,000 casualties occurred during two months of renewed fighting in Yemen, including about 1,000 deaths.

The World Health Organization, in its latest report on the escalation of conflict in Yemen, stated that the total number of casualties has risen to 5,166 people, including 959 dead and 4,207 injured, during the period from August 6 to October 2, 2026.

The report added that the number of casualties continues to rise as fighting persists, with 685 new casualties (121 dead and 564 injured) recorded during the last week - between September 27 and October 2 - at an average of 114 casualties per day compared to 101 casualties in the previous week.

The World Health Organization indicated that the mortality rate is 18.6 percent of the total casualties, and "Taiz Governorate has become the fiercest front, with daily losses rising from 8 to 109 in just one week as fighting moved to areas close to the city."

The organization appealed to donors for urgent and flexible funding of $29 million, aimed at providing surgical supplies and treating those with severe injuries on the front lines, offering health services to approximately 200,000 displaced individuals, combating the spread of diseases, and ensuring the continuity of basic healthcare.
