On Sunday, the Polish Interior Minister announced the arrest of the man who planned an attack on Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The Polish Ministry of the Interior announced earlier Sunday that police suspect that Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamisz may have been subjected to an assassination attempt.
Interior Ministry spokeswoman Carolina Galeica said on the “X” platform that the ministry issued directives to the authorities to take action “against information received by (the police) regarding a possible assassination attempt on the Prime Minister as well as the Deputy Prime Minister,” who also holds the defense portfolio.
Representatives of the police, the State Protection Agency and the Internal Security Agency participated in the meeting held on Sunday.
Spokesman for Poland's Minister for Coordination of Special Security Services, Jatsek Dobzinski, told reporters after the meeting, "We treat this issue very seriously."
"Month after month, year after year, the police, the State Protection Service and the security services receive more threats and messages containing various threats targeting Poland and Poles," he added.
He continued, "In this case, we are talking about a high probability that these threats will actually be implemented."
Poland, a member of NATO and the European Union, is on high alert after a series of stabbing attacks last week, which Tusk condemned, considering them part of a "culture of violence."
