The Serbian Orthodox Church affirms its support for the Palestinian people and its rejection of targeting the Christian presence

Ramallah - Ofoq News - Member of the Executive Committee of the Liberation Organization, Chairman of the Supreme Presidential Committee for Follow-up of Church Affairs in Palestine, Ramzi Khoury, received a message from Serbian Patriarch Porfirios, President of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, in which he expressed the Church’s solidarity and support for the Palestinian people, in light of the difficult circumstances taking place in the Holy Land.

In its message, the Serbian Orthodox Church expressed its deep regret over the deteriorating conditions of Christians and other residents of the Holy Land, and the suffering, persecution and discrimination they are subjected to, stressing that the suffering of innocent people, regardless of their religion or affiliation, is incompatible with human dignity.

The message stressed the importance of protecting the Christian presence in the Holy Land, noting that the presence of Christians spanning more than two thousand years constitutes an essential part of the region’s history and living legacy, and warning that any attempt to exclude or marginalize any religious or ethnic group would undermine the social and religious balance in the Holy Land.

The Church stressed the need to respect human dignity, international law, and religious rights, and expressed its support for the Palestinian people in light of their suffering, stressing that it will continue to raise the issue of protecting the Christian presence and peace in the Middle East during its meetings with political officials and representatives of international institutions, and seek to open paths for dialogue and peace and reach a just solution to the existing issues.
