Participating in the upcoming legislative elections is not a race in a leisure track to reach the seats of the council, nor will it be a journey for recreation and relaxation under the dome of parliament. The national issue today faces an existential battle, and the people are living in a difficult and highly complex phase. It is not permissible to simplify matters or subject the electoral process to testing individual or collective fortunes. The upcoming phase is fraught with challenges, surprises, and crises, carrying within it thorny files, unresolved problems, and accumulated crises over the past years. It awaits a parliamentary environment capable of bearing responsibility in the face of future challenges, and a legislative council that is creative and also capable of making decisions, enacting legislation and laws, and exercising oversight, accountability, and responsibility, while being the loud voice that advocates for the interests and rights of the people and the safety of the homeland.
The task of the upcoming legislative council is difficult and the challenges are great. Crises may escalate successively on various fronts and levels. Therefore, it is essential to take into account caution, verification, and scrutiny in the process of selecting candidates, and to fortify the lists with competencies and suitable individuals, ensuring popular acceptance and a safe passage towards victory and success. There is a necessity to be armed with a genuine and realistic national program capable of dealing with thorny files and issues with high responsibility.
Lists and candidates may be subjected to hundreds, if not thousands, of legitimate questions regarding electoral programs, unresolved files, and how to address them, as well as references, legitimacy, and the unity of Palestinian representation. There are also questions about ways to end the division and restore the unity of the Palestinian political and geographical system, how to deal with presidential decrees and their implications, as well as the state of poverty, unemployment, and deteriorating economic and living conditions, and about the Peace Council, the Gaza Reconstruction Plan, and recovery from the effects and repercussions of aggression and the destruction it left behind.
These files are not titles for election slogans that soar in the air, nor are they populist speeches designed to tickle emotions and for media consumption. Rather, they are urgent, real files and issues concerning the nation and the life of the citizen. Certainly, these files and issues will be placed on the agenda of the council before the members under the dome of parliament. The Palestinian situation today can no longer tolerate traditional routine election slogans; it needs realistic national programs and practical, applicable solutions. It requires people who understand the magnitude of the national responsibility that awaits them in the seats of parliament. Reaching the legislative council is not a goal or an end point; rather, it is the beginning of the path for action and work in bearing the moral, national, and historical responsibility before the people.
