Jerusalem - Ofoq News - The General Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories, Chairman of the Supreme Fatwa Council, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, called for distributing olive zakat to those who deserve it, coinciding with the olive harvest season.
Sheikh Hussein explained, in a statement issued by Dar Al-Iftaa, today, Sunday, that the quorum for zakat on olives is estimated at (653) kilograms of seeds, or the equivalent amount of oil produced from them after pressing, indicating that whoever’s crop reaches the quorum must pay 10% of it as zakat if it is irrigated with rain water, and 5% if it is irrigated with other irrigation methods.
He stressed the importance of caring for and preserving agricultural lands, and adhering to them as fertile and good land and a homeland for generations.
He denounced the attacks targeting lands planted with olives, including looting, uprooting and burning trees, terrorizing farmers, and preventing them from reaching their lands and reaping the fruits of their trees, praising the steadfastness of the Palestinian farmer stationed on his land despite all the difficulties and challenges.
