The elections of the Federation of Palestinian University Syndicates produce a new leadership and choose Musa Haba as official media spokesperson

Mother of God - Ofoq News - The elections for the Council of the Federation of Trade Unions in Palestinian Universities, which took place today at Birzeit University, produced a new union leadership, with the participation of the general body of the Council represented by the heads of unions in the universities under the umbrella of the Union, and in the presence of Brother Walid Al-Bayas, Director General of the Ministry of Labor and the staff accompanying him.

The meeting witnessed the discussion of a number of union issues that concern workers in Palestinian universities, in addition to discussing ways to institutionalize the union, enhance its role, and activate its presence in a way that serves the interests of workers and supports their just and legitimate rights and demands.

The attendees reviewed the most prominent achievements achieved by the union for the benefit of workers, stressing the importance of continuing joint union work, and strengthening the bonds of cooperation and integration between unions, in a way that contributes to developing union work and achieving the aspirations of workers in various Palestinian universities.

The results of the elections resulted in Dr. Saleh Afaneh winning the presidency of the union for the first stage, and he is the head of the Arab American University Workers’ Union, while Dr. Basil Mansour won the presidency of the union for the second stage, and he is the head of the workers’ union at An-Najah National University, and Dr. Hisham Dweikat won the position of president of the union for the third stage, and he is the head of the workers’ union at Al-Quds Open University.

Dr. Musa Abba also won the position of Secretary of the Union, and he is the President of the Workers Union at Palestine Technical University “Kadoorie” in Tulkarm.

Regarding the positions of vice presidents, Dr. Khaldoun Abu Al-Hassan won the presidency of the Workers’ Union at Al-Azhar University for the first stage, while Dr. Ahmed Rizq Al-Wadi from Al-Azhar University won the presidency of the Workers’ Union for the second stage.

Dr. Musa Abba was chosen as the official media spokesperson for the Council of the Federation of Trade Unions in Palestinian Universities, in a step aimed at strengthening media communication, highlighting workers’ issues and demands, and highlighting the union’s activities and union positions.

The elections were supervised by a committee composed of Dr. Moin Barghouthi, President of the Workers’ Union at Birzeit University, Dr. Walid Al-Rimawi, President of the Workers’ Union at Palestine Polytechnic University, and Dr. George Shehadeh, President of the Workers’ Union at Bethlehem University.

Dr. Saleh Afaneh stressed, following his victory, that the rights of workers in universities represent a priority that must be fully achieved, stressing the need to continue working to meet the fair demands of workers, implement the unified cadres for the years 2008 and 2016, and follow up on the conditions of universities that have not implemented these cadres yet.

He also called for holding periodic elections in unions where elections were not held in accordance with the rules, stressing the importance of solidarity, cooperation and communication between the various components of the union movement, to ensure the protection of the rights of workers in Palestinian universities, the promotion of their gains, and the fulfillment of their legitimate demands.

These elections come within the framework of efforts aimed at strengthening the role of the Council of the Federation of Trade Unions, unifying union efforts, and developing joint work mechanisms to serve workers in Palestinian universities and support their rights.
