After a "disastrous night", Modric harshly criticizes the Croatia players and demands that they act immediately.

Luka Modric criticized himself and his teammates in the Croatia national team, after losing to the England national team, with a wide score of 0-7, at the Awal Stadium, on Saturday, in the third round of the European Nations League. This result is one of the heaviest defeats suffered by the Croatian national team in history.

In statements reported by the “TNT SPORTS” network on Sunday, Modric said: “No bilateral tackles, no aggression, no violations, and no unity. I have been here for 20 years, and I must say that I feel ashamed for the first time after a match.” He added: "From the first minute to the last, to play like this, this is not the way football can be played."

He continued: “Even if I had played with fewer players, I would not have been able to play this way, and it seemed as if we were playing with four or five fewer players, a disastrous night.” The 41-year-old continued: “Playing this way is unacceptable. If we were playing against a third-rate team, we would have lost. There is no point in talking about tactics because everything starts with desire, will, fighting spirit, aggression, determination and confrontations.”

He added: "We simply should not point fingers at each other and look for someone to blame." The player, who has represented the Croatian national team since March 2006, explained: “We have to be united in this. We have come back from more difficult situations; we have suffered heavy defeats, but I have never felt this feeling after a match with the national team.”

Luka Modric concluded: “We have to stand together and remain united because another difficult match awaits us. We have to show our true face, and show challenge, pride, desire, will and togetherness. We cannot lose that overnight.” The Croatia national team will face its counterpart, the Spanish national team, on the field of the "Bollywood" stadium, next Tuesday, in the fourth round.
