- US President Donald Trump told ABC News on Thursday that he is receiving phone calls from people who are unhappy with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, but that he remains "absolutely determined to keep him." “I'm getting these calls, you know, about him,” Trump said in a phone call with Jonathan Karl, ABC's chief Washington correspondent.
This comes after Vice President J.D. Vance said on Wednesday that the Iranian war was the reason behind the heavy losses suffered by Republicans in the midterm elections, and the Ufok News Network reported that some allies believe that Hegseth may be vulnerable. Republican Representative Thomas Massie said he intends to put forward a vote on impeaching Hegseth next week, which the Uofq News Network reported is expected to be approved, according to multiple sources in the Republican Party.
Karl said Trump acknowledged that confirming a potential new defense secretary would be easier before Democrats take over the presidency of Congress in January. Trump told reporters on Wednesday that he had no plans to replace Hegseth.
