US President Donald Trump on Tuesday called on Ukraine to reach an agreement to end the war with Russia.
"Ukraine should want to settle this war," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
The US President stressed that the Ukrainian people are unlikely to tolerate further combat operations, and US President Zelensky must conclude a deal.
“He has to make a deal, because I think the burden will continue on the people,” he said, answering questions from reporters at the White House.
US envoy Steve Witkoff visited Oslo on Tuesday to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, seeking to end the four-year war between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump indicated that Moscow has the upper hand in the fighting because “Russia is a big machine, and it continues to advance relentlessly, and that is what it has done. It has seized a very large amount of territory.”
Trump's statements come as the Russian TASS news agency reported, citing a source, that Witkov is scheduled to visit Russia on Wednesday.
The Kremlin recently said that it hopes to arrange a meeting soon between Witkov and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
