A court ruling imposed a fine exceeding 7.7 million shekels in a tax crimes case

Ramallah - Ofoq News - Based on the investigations conducted by the Economic and Environmental Crimes Prosecution, and in light of the referral received from the General Administration of Customs, Excise and Value Added Tax in the Ministry of Finance, and the evidence, evidence and legal pleadings that it presented before the court, the Customs Court of First Instance issued a ruling convicting the company (K, F, A) for General Trade, through its commissioner (M, A), of committing four tax crimes, and sentencing it to a fine amounting to (7,778,444) shekels, This is in accordance with the provisions of applicable legislation.

The convictions included issuing tax invoices without paying the due fees on the legal dates, not issuing required tax invoices, issuing invoices for deals that were not concluded or promised to be concluded, as well as unlawfully deducting input invoices, in violation of the provisions of Decree Law No. (26) of 2024 regarding value-added tax.

The court ruled to impose the legally prescribed financial penalties for each of the crimes for which the company was proven guilty, and decided, in accordance with the provisions of Article (72) of the Penal Code No. (16) of 1960, to combine the penalties and apply the most severe penalty, so that the financial fine imposed was (7,778,444) shekels.

The Public Prosecution confirmed that prosecuting tax crimes constitutes an essential pillar in protecting public funds, preserving the rights of the public treasury, consolidating tax justice, and protecting the business environment and fair competition, given that adherence to tax legislation is a legal duty that guarantees equality and preserves public resources allocated to serving society.
