Today, Thursday, the Yemeni Council of Ministers approved executive procedures and directives to enhance the readiness of state institutions and translate general mobilization requirements into action programs, with the escalation of fighting in the governorates of Taiz and Lahj.
During a meeting held in Aden chaired by Prime Minister Shaye’ al-Zindani, the Council of Ministers approved measures to mobilize national resources and capabilities and enhance institutional, military, security, economic and humanitarian readiness.
The Council said that the general mobilization decision requires doubling the efforts of state institutions and raising the level of coordination between ministries, local authorities, and military and security agencies, with the aim of enabling the government to protect citizens, restore state institutions, and extend its authority over the entire country.
Al-Zindani stressed that the armed forces, the resistance, and the tribes are engaged in a confrontation with the Houthis, while the government must work to stabilize state institutions, protect the economy, and secure services and the lives of citizens.
He added that his government will continue to work in the field, saying that “this is a government of trenches present in the field,” and that government offices will not be a barrier between it and the citizens and forces present on the fronts.
The Council of Ministers discussed economic, financial and service measures to maintain market stability, secure basic commodities, and ensure regular disbursement of salaries and government obligations, in addition to enhancing the readiness of the health and service sectors and taking urgent measures regarding electricity.
He also directed the government and local authorities to raise their readiness to deal with any humanitarian repercussions of the escalation, including receiving and sheltering the displaced and providing them with health and food care in coordination with international organizations and humanitarian partners.
The Council took stock of the military and security developments on various fronts, including the escalation in Taiz and attempts to advance towards areas in Lahj, according to the statement issued after the meeting.
Al-Zindani said that viewing the conflict as a confrontation pertaining to one region rather than another represents a mistake, considering that the Houthis do not differentiate between governorates in their targeting, and do not recognize political pluralism or the right of Yemenis to choose their future.
He added that restoring state authority over the entire Yemeni territory does not aim to eliminate any party or confiscate any issue, but rather aims, according to him, to ensure a safe and stable state whose political choices stem from the will of the Yemenis.
He pointed out that the developments on the western coast and towards Bab al-Mandab go beyond the scope of the Yemeni conflict, considering that they threaten navigation, international trade and the security of supply lines, and accused Iran of supporting the Houthis and their military capabilities.
The Council of Ministers praised Saudi support for the Yemeni government, noting the Saudi emphasis on supporting the government in extending its authority over the entire country and restoring stability.
The Council also valued the deposit of $60 million, from the third installment of Saudi support for the general budget, with the Central Bank of Yemen, considering that the amount will help the government fulfill its obligations and maintain the regular work of its institutions and services.
