Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia launched 70 missiles and also drones in one of the largest attacks on the country targeting the energy sector, resulting in the deaths of at least 11 people.
Zelensky added on the Telegram app: "One of the main targets was our energy infrastructure. The Russians wanted to deliver a painful and clear blow."
He continued: "Russian ballistic missiles still pose the biggest challenge. Air defense systems are a vital necessity for us at the moment."
In contrast, the Ukrainian president said that Kyiv struck two Russian oil facilities and a training ground in the regions of Perm, Samara, and Astrakhan.
He added via the Telegram app: "These are justified Ukrainian responses to all Russian attacks on our people."
The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, was subjected to a new attack early Wednesday morning, just hours after President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of a new large-scale Russian assault.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that the armed forces targeted institutions involved in the production of "Flamingo" missiles and drones in Kyiv and six regions in Ukraine. They also targeted infrastructure facilities for repairing ports and ships in the Odesa region and ships operating for the Ukrainian forces during the night.
According to the Kyiv Independent newspaper, Russia launched a wide-ranging missile and drone attack on the capital.
The sound of numerous explosions was heard throughout the city during the early hours of the morning, according to the newspaper.
The newspaper reported that "the rockets are falling one after another. I counted at least 10 to 12 explosions. The noise is extremely loud in the city center."
