“SANA” from a source: Talk about Syria sending military forces to Yemen is “unfounded.”

The official Syrian News Agency (SANA) quoted a Syrian diplomatic source on Saturday as saying that Damascus sending military forces to Yemen at the present time is “unfounded,” adding that the current military agreements with Saudi Arabia focus on training military forces and building their capabilities. The source said: “The current military agreements with our brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia fall within the framework of cooperation in the fields of training, exchange of expertise and military consultations, in a way that serves the national interests of both countries.”

He continued, according to what SANA reported: “The agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia focuses on training military forces and building their capabilities, as coordination visits from Saudi Arabia to Syria will begin next month.” He also pointed out that "it is possible that this cooperation will develop in the future into a joint defense agreement or Syria joining the Mecca Pact, as required by common interests."

He explained, "Talk about sending Syrian military forces to Yemen at the present time is baseless, as Syria's priorities in the next phase are focused on consolidating internal security, reconstruction, and achieving economic recovery." On Wednesday, the President of the Syrian transitional period, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, visited Saudi Arabia and met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

At that time, the official Syrian Al-Ikhbariya channel indicated that Saudi Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani, the Ministers of Defence, Finance and Industry, and the Head of General Intelligence accompanied Al-Sharaa on this visit.
