On Thursday, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior revealed the circumstances of the arrest of 6 journalists at a news website run from abroad, stressing that the matter was due to Brotherhood plans to undermine the stability of the country.
The ministry said in a statement that, as part of following up on the Brotherhood’s plans to undermine the state of stability that the country enjoys by fabricating lies and promoting rumours, it has been monitored that there is a page on the Internet entitled “Don’t Believe” that is unlicensed and managed from abroad and deals with broadcasting false news and distorting facts.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed that the examination revealed that the page referred to is part of the media committees of the Brotherhood and is managed by the fugitive Brotherhood member abroad, Abdul Rahman Shukri Ali Abdul Jalil Mansour, and he is assisted inside Egypt by a number of Brotherhood members who prepare these false and fabricated news and send them to him abroad to publish them on the aforementioned page in exchange for financial funding they receive from abroad.
The Ministry of Interior said that the procedures had been codified and six members of the aforementioned Brotherhood Media Committee had been arrested, one of whom was registered with the Journalists Syndicate and the rest were not registered with the Syndicate, confirming that the head of the Journalists Syndicate had been informed at the time about the arrest of the aforementioned journalist and the background to his arrest, and legal measures had been taken.
