The Israeli Minister of Culture and Sports, Miki Zohar, published a video clip of a nurse examining an Israeli passenger on a Flydubai flight after its emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday. The video was published by the Israeli minister on his page on the “X” platform, previously Twitter, saying with a comment: “On behalf of the people of Israel, I thank the Saudi people for the good reception and kindness they showed towards the Israeli passengers who were rescued this morning (Wednesday), so that peace may prevail upon us and upon all the people of Israel, God willing.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented to the Ofek News network on Wednesday, saying that the pilot who resisted - on a Flydubai flight whose course was changed - after it appeared that another pilot in the cockpit tried to shoot down the plane "succeeded in preventing a catastrophe similar to the attacks of September 11, 2001," in reference to the attacks that the United States was subjected to after Al-Qaeda members targeted the World Trade Towers. “This is what appears to have been happening in terms of the specific motivations behind this,” Netanyahu added, adding that he spoke with US President Donald Trump “about this amazing act of heroism that prevented a catastrophe. Not only would it have been a catastrophe for Israel, but you can imagine how it could have affected the global aviation sector.”
He continued: "What distinguishes this incident from other tragic attacks is that the good side prevailed this time." He pointed out that Israel did not receive any warning or prior intelligence information regarding the incident, and that an investigation is currently underway into the incident.
Israel described the incident as an “attempted terrorist attack,” but has not yet announced details regarding the attacker’s motives. Indian pilot, Smit Machhar, is now viewed as a hero, after he confronted a violent attack by his co-pilot and contributed to preventing an attempted hijacking of a Flydubai plane that was heading to Israel with more than 170 people on board.
