Despite the exchange of threats between Washington and Tehran, the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that it had recently received a new American proposal.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei explained on Sunday that his country had already responded to the American proposal.
He also pointed out that "the proposal is similar to previous proposals and focuses on the nuclear file, while Tehran wants to focus on the Strait of Hormuz." He said: "Tehran wants to focus on the Strait of Hormuz, not on the nuclear file." He pointed out that there are additional points that still need to be communicated to the American side.
In addition, Baghaei stressed that “the issue of the return of the IAEA inspectors was not discussed,” according to what Reuters reported.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf made it clear earlier today that the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened unless Iran meets the seven conditions contained in the interim agreement concluded with the United States in June, days after Tehran received Washington’s response to its diplomatic proposal. Ghalibaf said, "The Americans, who say something different in the media, recently put forward proposals through an intermediary. But they must realize that the stage of procrastination and imposing unilateral demands is over."
