Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris criticized the problems associated with driving cars on the streets of Egypt, due to congestion, pedestrians crossing the roads, and lack of respect for laws, and presented some proposals to solve the problem. Naguib Sawiris wrote in a blog post on his official account on the “X” platform, formerly Twitter, on Thursday evening: “Driving in Egypt is between pedestrians, tuk-tuks, and motorcycles, and not respecting the laws by violating the directions. I want a driver, not a driver,” as he described it.
A user of the “X” platform commented on Sawiris’s post, saying: “You are driving as if you were driving an Arab in an amusement park, Engineer,” to which the businessman responded, saying: “True.” Another user commented, asking: “What is the solution, engineering?”
Naguib Sawiris responded to him by saying as follows: - Enforce the laws decisively and implement the rulings. - Tightening the procedures for granting driving licenses, preventing favoritism, and withdrawing the licenses of violators, especially driving in the opposite direction. - Licensing taxis or banning them completely, except in the countryside and popular neighborhoods, and converting them to electricity to prevent pollution and noise. - Strict blood testing for transport drivers and public transport buses. This comes as the Egyptian Ministry of Interior stressed, on Friday, that it “continues its traffic campaigns on all roads and axes nationwide, and that within 24 hours it was able to detect 106,273 various traffic violations, most notably: driving without a license, exceeding the speed limit, random parking, talking on a mobile phone while driving, and violating license conditions.”
The Ministry explained that 1,047 drivers were examined, and 42 of them were found to be using narcotic substances.
