The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Al-Budaiwi, confirmed that the member states are working on diversifying energy export outlets and ensuring the continuity of supply chains, which enhances the flexibility of the Gulf energy system and its readiness to face rapid changes.

He pointed out that energy security has gone beyond the ability to produce to include ensuring the delivery of supplies and their continuity under various circumstances, and that the member states are working on diversifying energy export outlets and ensuring the continuity of supply chains, which enhances the flexibility of the Gulf energy system and its readiness to face rapid changes.

This came during his speech at the 37th meeting of the Petroleum Cooperation Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council, today, Monday, October 5, 2026, in the Bahraini capital, Manama, chaired by the Minister of Oil and Environment, the Special Envoy for Climate Affairs in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Dr. Mohammed bin Dena, the current chair of the Petroleum Cooperation Committee, and in the presence of members of the Electricity and Water Cooperation Committee of the Council.

The Secretary-General explained that the indicators for 2025 reflect the prominent position of the member states in global energy markets, as their crude oil reserves are estimated at more than 518 billion barrels, and natural gas reserves have exceeded 44 trillion cubic meters, while crude oil production has surpassed 16 million barrels per day, and marketed natural gas production reached about 461 billion cubic meters. He emphasized that these indicators embody the strength of Gulf resources and capabilities and the efficiency of their management, along with the responsibility associated with supporting energy security and market stability.

He pointed out that the disturbances witnessed in some energy transport routes and corridors confirm the importance of enhancing Gulf coordination to ensure the reliability of supplies, alongside continuing to adopt a balanced and realistic approach to the energy transition, which maintains supply security and market stability, and promotes sustainability and investment in modern technologies.

He emphasized the importance of monitoring international legislation and measures with transboundary effects, studying their implications on the energy sector and the exports of the Council's countries, and enhancing coordination and unifying Gulf perspectives on them, in a way that preserves the interests of the Council's countries and their competitiveness in global energy markets.
