Lebanese President Joseph Aoun welcomed the decision of US President Donald Trump to cancel presidential decisions imposing restrictions on air transport with Lebanon, considering that it reflects confidence in the measures taken by the state to ensure the safety of civil aviation.

According to a statement published by the Lebanese presidency on the “X” platform, Aoun said that the decision constitutes an indication of confidence in the Lebanese measures to protect air traffic to and from Beirut, and to enhance the security of flights linking Lebanon to the countries of the world.

The Lebanese President thanked Trump for the decision and the executive measures that would be taken, noting that the US President had previously responded to his request to lift restrictions on air traffic between Lebanon and the United States, during their meeting at the White House last July.

The Lebanese presidency explained that, during the meeting, Trump instructed American officials on the need to restore air traffic between the two countries, and attached this to an immediate statement to American airlines to restore their flights to Beirut.

Aoun also thanked US Secretary of State Mark Rubio for his diligent follow-up of the file, and to everyone who worked to complete it.

The statement did not include a specific date for the resumption of flights or details of the expected executive procedures, while the Lebanese President expressed his hope that the decision would contribute to enhancing air traffic and facilitating communication between Lebanon and the world.

Aoun stressed that Lebanon attaches the utmost importance to the safety of civil aviation, the security of Rafic Hariri International Airport, and air traffic, and continues to take the necessary measures in accordance with approved international standards.

He stressed that these measures aim to preserve the safety of travelers and enhance confidence in Lebanon and its institutions, as part of the efforts made by the state to secure the movement of flights.

The Lebanese President expressed his appreciation for the American step, hoping that it would constitute a gateway to further cooperation between Lebanon and the United States in various fields, in addition to its expected role in facilitating travel and air connectivity.
