Bucharest - Ofoq News - Dr. Muhammad Ayyash, a member of the National and Central Councils of the Palestine Liberation Organization, strongly condemned the attack carried out by Israeli settlers against a delegation of foreign diplomats in the village of Taybeh, east of Ramallah, considering that what happened constitutes a serious violation of international laws and norms, and reflects the danger of continuing attacks on the Palestinians and everyone working to convey the truth or review the field conditions in the Palestinian territories.
Dr. Ayyash said in a press statement issued by his office in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, that the attack on diplomatic vehicles belonging to European missions by masked settlers carrying batons is not a passing incident, but rather comes in the context of repeated attacks targeting Palestinian citizens, their property and lands, in light of the continued absence of effective accountability for the aggressors.
He added that the seriousness of this attack is doubled because it targeted international diplomatic representatives, which requires a clear and firm international position, not limited to statements of condemnation, but rather going beyond them to practical measures that guarantee the protection of civilians and diplomats and holding those responsible for these attacks accountable.
In the same context, Dr. Ayyash denounced the brutal attack on American photojournalist Heidi Levin, working for the Washington Post newspaper, the day before yesterday, Friday, in the village of Abu Falah, northeast of Ramallah, while she was covering a settler attack on Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest season.
Leader Ayyash called on the international community and human rights and media institutions to take urgent action to provide international protection for the Palestinian people, monitor the attacks against farmers, journalists and diplomats, and work to ensure independent and transparent investigations into all incidents, and hold those involved accountable in accordance with the law.
Ayyash also called for strengthening the presence of international institutions in areas witnessing repeated attacks, especially the Palestinian villages surrounding Ramallah, in a way that contributes to documenting violations and protecting citizens, their property, and agricultural lands.
Dr. Muhammad Ayyash concluded his statement by emphasizing that protecting journalists, diplomats and civilians is an international and legal responsibility.
