A video clip spread on social media as showing the moment Egyptian forces were sent to Saudi Arabia, after President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called on the House of Representatives to grant him a mandate to support the Kingdom militarily, amid the escalation of Houthi attacks in Yemen. The video shows soldiers moving around Egyptian C-130 military transport planes, while the clip carries a phrase that says, “The Egyptian army arrives in Saudi Arabia with 6 military transport planes carrying fighters and military equipment.”
The video received more than a quarter of a million views on X alone, accompanied by a caption calling for the soldiers to return safely. By splitting the video into still shots and using a reverse search, we found several versions published at different time points, one of which was published last April.
A copy is available on Instagram on April 22, 2026, while there is no clear context about the occasion when the scenes were taken. Although the oldest version of the one we found is not accessible, our estimates indicate that the video scenes may date back years.
The video scenes bear a similarity to a photo published by the military spokesman for the Egyptian army on his Facebook page on October 27, 2014. The most common features appear in the appearance of the soldiers.
The video was circulated after the Egyptian President announced, on Saturday, that Egypt would implement any measure to protect Saudi Arabia, while the House of Representatives extended its discussions until next Sunday, to vote on authorization to send forces to the Kingdom. Al-Sisi's statements sparked a wave of interactions at the domestic and regional levels.
The Houthi group warned that “Egypt sliding down this path will pose a serious threat to its national security and internal stability before others,” according to a letter from the Speaker of the House of Representatives (affiliated with the Houthis) to his Egyptian counterpart, on Saturday. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said in statements on Tuesday: “We emphasized in our discussions with our Egyptian counterpart that we do not believe that any additional intervention by Islamic countries will lead to improving the situation. On the contrary, it will result in an aggravation and escalation of the situation.”
