The head of the Iranian Shura Council, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf, stressed on Thursday that the carrot and stick method (carrot and intimidation) will not work for Iran, in the context of the diplomatic path between Tehran and Washington to stop the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This came in a post by Qalibaf on his page on the X platform (formerly Twitter), in which he said: “The mediators have been informed of Iran’s conditions repeatedly and clearly.
The carrot and stick approach does not work with Iran. No progress can be achieved unless its seven conditions are agreed upon.” The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, detailed the “seven-day plan” to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume talks with the United States of America, in an opinion article published in the British newspaper “Financial Times” last week.
Araqchi confirmed in his article that at the last UN General Assembly meeting, “I presented, through intermediaries, a seven-day plan to America, clarifying the necessary measures from both parties to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The important point is that America, under this proposal, is not expected to take action to which it had not previously agreed.”
The steps stipulated in the framework of the agreement are clear, and the outcome is also specific: the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened on the sixth day, and negotiations to reach the final agreement will resume as of the seventh day. If this plan is implemented, life in the region will gradually return to normal.”
