The diplomatic advisor to the President of the UAE, Anwar Gargash, confirmed that the confrontation of extremism in the region is still ongoing, warning of the danger of justifying terrorism through hate speech, in his comment on the recent incident that occurred on a Flydubai flight.

Gargash said that the latest operation represents “a new warning that the confrontation is not over,” stressing the UAE’s position rejecting extremism and its rhetoric, and that strengthening security begins with confronting hate speech and working to dry up the sources of extremism.

In a related context, Gargash praised the Indian pilot of Flydubai, Smit Machhar, considering that what he showed during the incident embodied courage and responsibility in the face of what he described as a “dangerous act of terrorism” and a potential disaster.

He pointed out that Machhar's professionalism and moral sense in dealing with the circumstances he faced make him a "true hero," calling at the same time to stay away from reductive explanations or promoting conspiracy theories about the incident, and to emphasize instead the importance of vigilance and precaution in confronting the dangers of extremism and terrorism.

Flydubai flight No. FZ1073 was heading from Dubai to Tel Aviv before it made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after the pilot was assaulted by his co-pilot, according to reports on the results of the preliminary investigation. The plane’s captain and co-pilot left for Abu Dhabi later after their condition improved.

The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority also praised Machhar's courage and quick response, along with the flight crew and passengers who contributed to controlling the situation, stressing that the rapid intervention contributed to containing the accident and preventing more serious repercussions.
