The Mansouri 203 Corps announced the outbreak of armed clashes between its forces and Pakistani forces near the Durand Line in the Dand Patan area in Paktia Province, southeastern Afghanistan.
In a statement, published on the X platform, the Taliban Military Corps said that the fighting began after Pakistani forces opened fire, prompting Taliban fighters to return fire. The statement added that the Pakistani side used 14 ballistic missiles and several drones during the confrontation, according to the Afghan Khaama Press news agency on Sunday.
The Corps stated that light and heavy weapons were used during the clashes, but it did not report any casualties among the Taliban forces. He added that the situation has returned to normal. The Pakistani authorities had not commented publicly on the incident or the Taliban allegations at the time of the report.
Local sources reported that clashes also broke out in the Aryub Zazi area in Paktia province. The sources spoke about the use of heavy weapons and said that Pakistani forces targeted many villages and indicated that some residents fled their homes. The number of potential victims is not yet clear.
The latest fighting comes amid renewed tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan.
Islamabad accused the Taliban of allowing armed groups, including the Pakistani Taliban, to operate from Afghan territory, while the Taliban authorities reject accusations that Afghanistan is being used to launch attacks against Pakistan.
