A new archaeological discovery in the Sultanate of Oman... burial chambers reveal bone remains and pottery

- Excavation work carried out by the Department of Heritage and Tourism in Al Dhahirah Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman revealed skeletal remains and complete pottery inside burial chambers, most of which date back to the Jemdet Nasr civilization in Mesopotamia, and date back to the third millennium BC, according to a statement published online by the official website of the Oman News Agency on Tuesday. These archaeological finds were found as part of a salvage excavation of archaeological cemeteries located within a residential plan in the Al-Ainin area in the state of Ibri.

The Director of the Department of Heritage and Tourism in Al Dhahirah Governorate, Walid bin Hamad Al Ghafri, explained to the Oman News Agency that these excavations aim to document archaeological evidence, protect them, and save them from destruction as a result of the rapid urban sprawl in the region. The archaeological finds also included copper and bronze tools, including arrowheads, axes, and daggers, in addition to a large number of beads dating back to the same time period.

The specialized team is still continuing excavation work at the archaeological site until the end of this month. However, preliminary results indicate the great importance of the site, and its role in highlighting the civilizational expansion and cultural communication between the Sultanate of Oman and neighboring civilizations at that time.
