Pyongyang conducted a test of a “new-type” guided torpedo system that uses artificial intelligence techniques to detect targets and direct weapons, North Korea’s Central News Agency reported on Saturday.
The agency stated that an underwater test launch of the high-speed "ZAM-2.0" system was conducted on Thursday with the aim of "ensuring the success of the technical modernization process" for this weapon.
She added, "Artificial intelligence techniques were applied to the target detection and guidance functions of the new generation high-speed guided torpedo."
The agency added that the test demonstrated the effectiveness of the propulsion technology that was developed through more than 180 tests over the past five years.
Earlier this month, North Korea announced the test of a medium-range hypersonic missile that uses artificial intelligence technologies.
In September, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stressed the need to "enhance the use of artificial intelligence" in domestic weapon systems.
Analysts believe that Pyongyang may be developing its missile capabilities at an accelerated pace with Russian military support, in exchange for sending forces to support Moscow in Ukraine.
