- Sources revealed to the Ofoq News Network that US President Donald Trump will follow the results of the midterm congressional elections in the East Room of the White House, on Wednesday, accompanied by a small group of his allies and members of his administration. At the same time, the White House and Trump’s political team in the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement have allocated operating rooms inside the White House complex and in nearby places to follow up on the results first hand.
One source stated that the idea of holding this gathering emerged during the past few days, after Republican officials and allies expressed to the White House their desire to follow the results alongside Trump. This scene brings to mind the way Trump followed the results of the 2022 elections.
Although the circumstances Trump faces today are radically different from those in 2022, the outcome may be similar. At the time, Trump - after completing his first term and leaving Washington - was planning a political comeback, counting on the candidates he supported to achieve landslide victories.
In the final stage of the electoral race, Trump put himself at the center of the battle by participating in the campaigns of the candidates he chose. On election night, he held a results-follow-up party at his Mar-a-Lago resort, inviting the press to witness what he and his advisers believed at the time might be a “landslide for the Republican Party.”
But as the night progressed, it became clear that candidates who embraced the MAGA agenda were defeated in some of the most important election races. The press was quickly asked to leave, while Trump directed his anger at his aides for their role in selecting these candidates.
Tonight, Trump will meet again with his senior aides and advisors to follow up on the results of the midterm elections, this time in his capacity as President of the United States, after achieving the political return he was seeking. However, the White House is preparing for the possibility of disappointing results.
Sources close to Trump said that he sometimes expressed optimism that opinion polls might be inaccurate, and that his party would achieve better results than those polls indicated. Trump expressed to his aides his belief that his personal involvement, including campaign spending, telephone rallies, fundraising tours and support for Republican candidates, had given Republicans a real chance to compete.
However, the sources indicated that Trump acknowledged in private conversations that his party “may face the worst scenario.” Two White House officials confirmed that they are prepared to deal with any scenario, including the possibility that Trump decides to speak to reporters while the results are received.
