Ramallah - Ofek News - Majda Al-Masri, Deputy Secretary-General of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, condemned the attacks by Israeli occupation forces early today on the monuments of martyrs and their memorials and images in various cities of the occupied West Bank, including the Martyrs' Monument at Birzeit University, which was targeted two days ago, following the demolition of several monuments in different cities.
Al-Masri considered that the targeting and demolition of these monuments as a form of revenge for October 7, which marks its third anniversary today, indicates their continued fear of the symbols of resistance and the resistors, represented by the martyrs' monuments, which our people cherish and hold in their national memory, immortalizing their memories and sacrifices from a position of commitment to our people's right to resist the occupation as long as it remains on our land. These monuments carry names and histories of struggle, and are deeply connected to the sentiments of our people and the families of the martyrs.
Al-Masri added: The pursuit of the names, images, and symbols of the martyrs is a failed attempt to impose the narrative of the occupation by force, and the world is more aware and cognizant of our just cause and our legitimate national rights and the nature of the Israeli occupation, which is considered a racist colonial settlement and is marked by its practice of genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip and its targeting of our existence on our land, including in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Al-Masri stated: The occupation's bulldozers can destroy stone, but they will not erase the names of the martyrs from the consciousness of our people, nor will they remove from the Palestinian generations their representation of their history and their commitment to their national rights, and their insistence on continuing their struggle against the colonial replacement project, along with all the free people of the world, including peoples, parliaments, movements, unions, universities, and countries that have become more aware of the justice of our cause.
Majda Al-Masri concluded her statement by calling for an organized national movement involving forces, institutions, municipalities, universities, and civil society organizations, to assess the damages, document every incident with photos, testimonies, and dates, and to work on restoring and rebuilding the targeted monuments in coordination with the relevant authorities and the families of the martyrs.
