“Crazy”... Trump attacks black or Jewish voters who support Abdul Rahman Al-Sayyid

- US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that black or Jewish voters who support the Democratic candidate for Senate in Michigan, Abdul Rahman Al-Sayed, are “crazy.” At a campaign rally in South Carolina, Trump said: “When we find out that some of the things he said were terrible...

If you are black or Jewish, and you vote for the master, you are crazy. Referring to Abdul Rahman Al-Sayed's supporters, Trump added: "You're crazy anyway."

Trump's mention of Abd al-Rahman al-Sayyid, hundreds of miles away in South Carolina, highlights how the Republican Party is trying to portray this Democratic candidate from Michigan, who may go down in history as the first Muslim elected to the Senate, as a "bogeyman" in election races across the country. Trump repeated familiar false claims, claiming that Abdel-Rahman Al-Sayyid “definitely belongs to the Muslim Brotherhood.”

It is noteworthy that the Democratic candidate from Michigan has disavowed this Islamic political movement, and denied allegations indicating the existence of links between him or his family and this group. At another campaign rally held in Michigan last weekend, Trump also said that any Jewish person who supports Abdul Rahman Al-Sayyid “should be ashamed of himself.”

He added at the time: "I cannot understand how any Jewish person could even think about voting for this man." For his part, Mike Rogers, a former representative and Republican challenger to Abd al-Rahman al-Sayyid, tried to curry favor with some of the traditional Democratic electoral bases that did not support al-Sayyid in the primaries, specifically black voters in Detroit and surrounding areas, as well as Jewish voters.

But an opinion poll conducted by the Ofoq News Network on the Senate race in Michigan, released Thursday, showed Abdul Rahman Al-Sayed leading over Rogers by 49% to 42% among likely voters, amid indications that the Democratic base in the state has united behind him.
