A comparison between the Chinese and South Korean giants

It is known that China and South Korea are among the most prominent countries in East Asia economically and industrially at the regional and global levels, but the differences and differences between the two countries are large, and include the population, area, climate, form of the ruling political system, economic location in the world, pattern of culture, soft powers, energy, and others. Geographically, China is considered the third largest country in the world with an area of approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, and a population of more than 1.4 billion people, while the area of South Korea is one hundred thousand square kilometers. It is inhabited by only about 52 million people, and economically, China is the second largest economy in the world after the United States, and its economy depends on industrialization and heavy export abroad, while South Korea occupies the tenth place among the world’s economies. Its economy is based on modern manufacturing managed by huge industrial blocs such as the two giant companies, Samsung and Hyundai, each of which is worth tens of billions of dollars. The market value of Hyundai, for example, is 83 billion dollars, while the value of Samsung in 2017. 2026, about $1.32 trillion. While China achieved its economic renaissance under a totalitarian communist regime and strict central authority, Korea succeeded in achieving an amazing rise through a parliamentary democratic system based on party pluralism and elections. As for the educational system, China follows a strict and targeted educational system with a focus on mathematics, science and technology, while South Korea has made lifelong education the basis of society, which has produced a generation of students and cadres distinguished by their knowledge and modern training far from the norm.Ideology. If we compare the two countries technologically, we find that China has achieved great progress in the fields of artificial intelligence, robotics, communications networks, and satellites, relying on the innovations of its children or copying Western and Japanese products, while South Korea today is among the most advanced countries in the world in the technologies of electronic goods, telephone devices, the Internet, and the automobile, ship, and construction industries.

In the areas of international relations, China seeks expansion, influence and dominance, and adopts a strategy of courting the countries of the world through a pragmatic policy and means of temptation with loans and aid embodied by its controversial “Belt and Road” initiative, while South Korea maintains close strategic relations with the United States and the West, and is trying to balance the Chinese rise and dominance. As for the field of soft powers, such as art, cinema, and sports, we find that the various arts in China, especially theater and cinema, are subject to strict censorship that limits their vitality and creativity, while South Korea, thanks to its free democratic climate, has achieved wide international fame in drama, music, and cinema in recent decades. The discussion is not complete when drawing a comparison between the two countries without referring to the issues of energy and health care, as both countries rely heavily on energy imported from the oil-producing countries of the Middle East, and are seeking to build up a reserve. Huge oil supply for use when supply chains are interrupted for political reasons, noting that China suffers from serious environmental pollution, while South Korea is expanding the use of clean nuclear energy. In the field of health care, we find that Korea is far superior to China. In the latter, there is a large disparity in terms of the quality of health care between cities and rural areas, while South Korea is characterized by a developed and modern health system that extends from cities to rural areas, and is considered among the best at the regional and global levels in terms of efficiency and service, as recognized by the World Health Organization. We conclude by pointing out that some of these differences may be due to the history of the two countries, and whatHe witnessed political events and fluctuations. China suffered greatly from the political change that occurred in 1949 with the success of Mao Zedong's communist revolution, and the subsequent ideological adventures that eliminated the best thinkers and educated national cadres in rehabilitation camps. It also suffered from the extreme socialist applications that struck the wealthy classes and owners of capital who once made cities like Shanghai more luxurious and glamorous than New York or Paris. In contrast to this, we find that the history of South Korea is linked to unified Korea, which the civil war (1950-1953) in light of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union caused it to be divided into two parts. After its separation, the southern half began a rapid economic and industrial renaissance and astonished the world by presenting itself as a peaceful, modern technological civilizational model.
