Residential neighborhoods in the city of Taiz, southwest of Yemen, are being subjected to intense bombardment by the Houthi militia, and the echoes of its explosions reverberate throughout the city, amid growing fears for the lives of tens of thousands of civilians in light of a sharp deterioration in humanitarian conditions and a shortage of basic supplies.

According to local testimonies, the city is witnessing violent Houthi bombing, which doubles the risks facing residents in one of the most crowded Yemeni cities, in light of the continued siege and restrictions imposed on the arrival of supplies.

On Thursday, the Taiz Human Rights Center (THRC) reported that five civilians, including two children, were killed and injured, and 11 homes were damaged by Houthi bombing that targeted homes in residential areas in the Sabr al-Mawadim district, south of the city of Taiz.

The center said that its field monitoring team monitored, yesterday, Wednesday, the fall of three mortar shells fired by the Houthi group on residential homes in the village of Aad in the Al-Arous area in the Sabr Al-Mawadim District, south of Taiz.

He added that the bombing led to the killing of (Moatasem Ibrahim Ahmed Qasim, 30 years old), (Elyas Muhammad Ali Al-Jundi, 15 years old), and the wounding of (Muhammad Omar Ali Nasser, 12 years old), (Mundhir Ali Muhammad Ahmed, 32 years old), and (Hamid Muhammad Abdo, 70 years old).

He pointed out that the bombing caused material damage to 11 houses, some of which were partially destroyed.

In the Al-Waziyah District, west of the governorate, the citizen Ahmed Ibrahim Abdullah was killed, and the citizen Muhammad Hassan Al-Mashuli was injured yesterday, Wednesday, after they were run over by a Houthi military vehicle, according to local sources.

In another incident in Al-Shamaytain District, south of Taiz, a woman was killed and her daughter and two sisters were injured as a result of a landmine explosion planted by the Houthi militia, in Wadi Usus, in the center of the district.

Local sources reported that the explosion occurred while family members were in an agricultural field in the village of Bani Amer, killing the woman and wounding her daughter with shrapnel in her leg, while her two sisters were injured as a result of the explosion.

The Taiz Human Rights Center called on international and local humanitarian organizations to condemn this crime and all the Houthi group’s violations against civilians in Taiz, and to put pressure to lift the stifling siege it imposes on the city, stop all its attacks on residential areas and civilian objects, and take the necessary measures to protect the population, ensure accountability for violations, and ensure that those responsible do not escape punishment.

The developments coincide with an acute shortage of water, food, medicine, and fuel, which increases the fragility of living conditions and threatens to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis, especially among children, women, the elderly, and the sick.

Fears are rising about the widespread damage and civilian casualties, amid calls for urgent humanitarian intervention to protect the population and ensure the unhindered access of aid and basic supplies.
