The visitor does not need an invitation from the White House to sit behind the US President’s desk or approach the details of his Oval Office.
A short distance from the presidential residence in Washington, a museum experience allows the public to enter a life-sized version of the office and take pictures in it, amidst golden decor that mimics the choices of Donald Trump during his second presidential term, according to the Associated Press.
The copy in the “People’s House: The White House Experience” museum underwent a new update, during which gold decorations and frames were added, along with works of art and decorative pieces that reflect the shape that Trump chose for the Oval Office.
The experience is not limited to simulating a famous room; It gives the visitor the opportunity to approach a space that has been associated for decades with the most prominent presidential decisions, political meetings, and historical moments in the United States.
The exhibition also does not present a static version of the Oval Office, but rather it changes with the arrival of a new president, in an attempt to reflect in its details the choices of the occupant of the White House and his style of arranging the place.
In July 2025, the museum version witnessed its first major update, after collectibles related to Joe Biden's period were replaced with others that mimic Trump's choices during his first term.
But with the recent update, the exhibition has become more like a visual record of the changes that occur in the office from one department to another, from furniture and artwork to frames and decorative pieces.
Thus, the project not only reproduces a well-known presidential space, but also allows the visitor to compare the way in which different presidents chose to present the place that represents one of the most prominent symbols of American executive authority.
To reproduce the details of the office, the experimenters hired craftsmen and teams specialized in making frames and decorative pieces. The edition includes 24 photos chosen by Trump, surrounded by gilded frames, along with copies of vases and decorative pieces found in the presidential office. But visual similarity does not mean using the same materials.
In the real Oval Office, there are decorations covered in gold leaf, while those in charge of the museum version resorted to gold paint, which allows maintaining the general appearance while withstanding daily use and many visitors.
One of the most prominent elements of the experience is the opportunity for visitors to sit behind a copy of the “Resolute” desk, one of the most famous pieces of furniture associated with the American presidency, among copies that mimic the office’s furniture and artistic collectibles.
The experience does not stop at the visual aspect, as a media unit inside the room displays historical and contemporary images, linking the details of the place to stations, personalities, and events that have been associated with the Oval Office over decades. Thus, the visitor turns from being a mere spectator into a part of the scene, in an experience that combines a memorial photo with learning about presidential history, and gives the details of the decor a meaning that goes beyond their aesthetic value.
It is noteworthy that the White House Historical Association opened the museum in September 2024, inside a three-story building on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington.
In addition to the miniature version of the Oval Office, the museum includes a representation of the Rose Garden, and immersive displays simulating a number of White House halls, as well as testimonies from people who worked inside the presidential residence. The museum offers free entry, with prior reservations required to regulate the number of visitors.
