The King of Jordan threatens the harshest punishments after the Karak Church attack: “We will strike with an iron hand.”

Karak - Ofoq News - Jordanian King Abdullah II vowed to confront the armed attack that targeted the Hamoud Church in Karak Governorate, southern Jordan, with the harshest penalties, stressing that the incident would not undermine the unity and cohesion of Jordanians.

King Abdullah II said, in a post on the “X” platform: “We will confront the terrorist act that targeted Karak with the harshest penalties,” adding that those who believed that the shooting would lead to division among the Jordanians “have been disappointed in their efforts in the face of our steadfastness and unity.”

The Jordanian King stressed that the Jordanians, from the north to the south of the Kingdom, are partners in the land and the situation, stressing that attempts to undermine their unity will not succeed.

He also expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing recovery for the injured, and said: “Jordanian blood is precious, and we will strike with an iron fist anyone who insults this country.”

The king's statements came after gunfire targeted people during a funeral ceremony in the vicinity of Hammoud Church in Karak Governorate, in an incident that resulted in deaths and dozens of injuries.

The Jordanian authorities announced the opening of an investigation into the incident and the prosecution of the perpetrators, while officials called for not circulating information not issued by official authorities, as investigations continue.
