Against the backdrop of mutual accusations and exchanges between them on social media, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation in Egypt announced that both broadcasters, Reham Saeed and Yasmine Al-Khatib, were banned from appearing for two months.
The Council issued a statement today, Thursday, in which it announced the approval of its members, headed by Engineer Khaled Abdel Aziz, to the recommendations of the Complaints Committee to oblige all media outlets subject to the provisions of Law No. 180 of 2018 to prevent the appearance of the two famous broadcasters, Reham Saeed and Yasmine Al-Khatib, for a period of two months, after investigating the mutual complaints submitted by each of them.
The statement added that the Council's General Monitoring Department monitored an exchange between the two broadcasters through their accounts on social media sites, in a manner inconsistent with societal values, controls, and professional principles regulating media work.
The Council stressed that professional responsibility is not limited to what the journalist presents through various media outlets, but also extends to what he publishes or circulates through his accounts on social networking sites, as it is part of the public sphere that requires adherence to professional rules and respect for the nature of media work, and the controls it imposes in speech and behavior, in a way that maintains the status of the profession and the respect of the public.
It is noteworthy that this is not the first time for both Reham Saeed and Yasmine Al-Khatib, as they were arrested in previous times due to socially controversial issues.
Last May, the management of the “Al-Nahar” channel network decided to withdraw the final episodes of the program “Sabaya Al-Khair” by journalist Reham Saeed and delete them from all of its digital platforms, in the wake of the mixed controversy and widespread reactions sparked by the “Street Dogs” episode.
In October 2024, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation announced the suspension of the “Sabaya” program on the “Hea” channel, presented by the journalist Reham Saeed, for two months, and a fine of one hundred thousand pounds, and a warning to the channel not to continue presenting content that incites the violation of private life and distorting the image of society.
In 2024, broadcaster Yasmine Al-Khatib sparked a storm of criticism after she hosted the Egyptian blogger Hadeer Abdel Razek, which prompted the Supreme Council for Media Regulation at the time to take the decision to suspend the “Jasmine Tea” program on Al-Nahar channel for a period of 6 months, fine her 200 thousand pounds, and warn her for violating media codes and standards and legal, ethical, and behavioral values, and violating the controls that preserve the media’s status and role as a soft force that spreads awareness and protects. Society is free from all forms of deviation.
