The two trucks that appeared in Al-Kahhala and Dahr Al-Baydar are not just two separate incidents in the Lebanese security record. Comparing them raises questions related to the nature of the loads, the parties behind them, the destinations to which they were intended, and most importantly, whether the Lebanese state knows the truth about what is happening on its roads, or whether the dangerous facts remain captive to ambiguity and political settlements.
On August 9, 2023, a truck loaded with ammunition overturned on Kahwa Al-Kahhala. Hezbollah confirmed that the truck belonged to it, while the Lebanese Army announced that its cargo had been transferred to one of its centers and that an investigation had been opened under the supervision of the competent judiciary. The clash that followed the incident resulted in the killing of two people, one of them from Al-Kahhala and the other from the truck’s companions.
The case, then, was not just a truck that broke down or overturned. It revealed a very sensitive security reality: the transport of weapons outside the known frameworks of the state, and an armed escort that treated the cargo as something that citizens had no right to approach, and then casualties occurred when this equation collided with the objection of the people.
As for the Dahr Al-Baydar truck, which was loaded with highly explosive materials, more serious questions were raised after the nature of its cargo and the circumstances related to it were proven. Here the question is no longer limited to the ownership of the truck, but rather extends to the source of the materials, the party that received them, the purpose of transporting them, the path it took, and the final destination it was intended for.
The time difference between the two incidents, about three years and two months, makes the comparison more urgent. In August 2023, the questions were related to transporting ammunition and protecting the truck, but in October 2026, we are faced with reports of the seizure of about half a ton of explosives in Dahr al-Baydar, along with iron balls and nails, which are elements that raise the seriousness of the case and require a thorough investigation.
The most dangerous thing is that the information published about the preliminary investigation indicates that the destination of the shipment was the southern suburb of Beirut, and that the detainees spoke of being assigned to transport it from the Baalbek area to another person.
What was the purpose of transporting this quantity? Was it intended for storage, military manufacturing, or a specific security operation? Who issued the orders, who received the shipment, and are there other shipments or plans related to them? These questions should not be lost in the maze of political tension.
The Lebanese judiciary is facing a real test. What is required is not to leak scattered information, but rather to reveal the complete truth to public opinion, determine responsibilities, and hold accountable everyone proven involved, regardless of the party to which they belong.
Lebanon cannot live between weapons trucks and others loaded with explosives, while their destinations and goals remain in question. The Lebanese people have the right to know, and the state’s duty is to answer.
