The olive harvest season began unofficially. Some citizens rushed, fearing that the settlers would steal them, and that the occupation forces would deprive the citizens of access to their lands and sacred trees in light of the widespread attack carried out by the Israeli occupation (the Israeli government, the army, and the settlers).
Citizens’ fear of the occupation’s coercions with its three components this year is the greatest throughout the years of the Israeli occupation, not only because this season coincides with the Israeli elections, in which attacks by settlers usually increase; To deprive the Palestinians of reaping the benefits and robbing them of their sources of livelihood on the one hand and using them within the framework of bidding between the Israeli political forces in their electoral campaign on the other hand, but also for greater clarity in the extent of the existing Israeli policy through the approval of legislation in the Knesset that reached its goal of tightly closing the future in any political option, and to support the Israeli government with measures to effectively annex Palestinian lands by facilitating the seizure of Palestinian lands and the construction and expansion of settlements and the establishment of settlement outposts in various parts of the West Bank, and participation The occupation army is implementing these policies and procedures and colluding with the components and structures of settlers in the West Bank, protecting their attacks and participating in them according to reports from multiple human rights and official institutions, and increasing attacks by armed settlers on citizens in Palestinian villages, towns and gatherings to displace residents from them and from the lands they use for living and livelihood.
I think that the current olive season is the most difficult for the Palestinians, and it may be the bloodiest, or that the olives and their oil this time are dipped in blood and mixed with it instead of fatigue and sweat. The persecution of Palestinians, which is usually carried out by the Israeli army, will become doubled in partnership with the settlers, without any deterrent or force capable of protecting Palestinian farmers.
There is no doubt that the policy of patience “based on enduring pain and supplicating to God to remove it” does not work, but rather requires treatment capable of alleviating pain on the one hand, and recovery on the other. Both of them require initiative, work and action instead of lamentation and reaction, which is “initiative represented by anticipation, action represented by organized endeavor and driven will, and action represented by the effect produced or the results” is part of a popular culture based on the collective mind of the Palestinian society represented by social solidarity and assistance in harvest seasons and times of joy and sadness.
The olive harvest season, “the annual harvest,” requires popular initiative and social solidarity within the framework of a collective effort that establishes a popular movement to defend the right of the Palestinians to protect their land and make their livelihoods sustainable. This collective framework is not limited to the residents of the threatened villages and towns, but rather involves the masses of Palestinians to participate and protect within the framework of initiative, work, and action so that the Palestinians preserve what remains of the land, and strive to keep the components of citizens’ steadfastness possible.
