The United States welcomed a European Parliament resolution calling for more stringent measures to confront terrorism linked to extremist movements and the influence of Brotherhood networks, stressing the continuation of its measures against branches of the group involved in terrorist and destabilizing activities.
Massad Boulos, advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, said in a post on the “X” platform that Washington welcomes the European Parliament’s decision, noting that the United States is taking decisive measures against the branches of the Brotherhood involved in terrorism and destabilizing activities.
Boulos added that his country encourages continued cooperation with European partners to combat terrorism, disrupt violent extremist networks, and protect common security, emphasizing the importance of coordination between the two sides to confront security threats.
The American position comes after the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling for stronger measures to confront terrorism and the influence of Brotherhood networks. The resolution calls for tightening the relevant measures, while its adoption alone does not mean automatically including the group on the European Union list of terrorist organizations.
It is noteworthy that the administration of President Donald Trump took steps against the activity of the Brotherhood in the United States, on November 24, 2025, when Trump signed an executive order according to which he began the process of studying the classification of specific branches of the group as foreign terrorist organizations, or their inclusion on the list of specially classified global terrorists, while directing the Departments of State and the Treasury to evaluate branches in Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon.
On January 13, 2026, the US Departments of Treasury and State announced the classification of the group’s branches in Egypt and Jordan on the list of specially classified global terrorists, due to providing material support to the Hamas movement, according to US estimates.
