The Royal Institute of Traditional Arts (Werth) has opened registration for the traditional embroidery apprenticeship programme, which lasts 18 months, with the aim of qualifying specialist practitioners in the craft, developing their skills in designing and producing embroidered products, in addition to enabling them to establish private craft projects.
The program begins on January 3, 2027, and is held in person at the institute’s headquarters in the Al-Fouta neighborhood in the capital, Riyadh, under the supervision of craftsmen and specialists, within three training levels that combine historical knowledge, practical application, and professional skills.
Participants receive training on the history of traditional embroidery, its basics, and methods for choosing appropriate materials, in addition to learning traditional stitches, sewing techniques, and hand embroidery.
The program also includes developing the skills of designing embroidered products, and producing pieces that combine traditional styles and contemporary designs, which contributes to preserving the identity of the craft and expanding its areas of use.
The program is not limited to vocational training, but includes professional and entrepreneurial paths that include time management, productivity analysis, project planning and feasibility studies, in addition to product pricing and marketing.
This aspect aims to enable trainees to transform their skills into job opportunities and productive projects, in a way that supports the sustainability of traditional crafts and the development of their products.
Applications for registration will continue to be received through the institute’s website until November 1, 2026, and personal interviews and practical admission tests will be conducted for candidates during the period from November 8 to 19.
Since its establishment in 2021, the Royal Institute of Traditional Arts “Wirth” has been working to qualify national competencies in the fields of traditional arts and crafts, through educational and training programs aimed at transferring craft skills to new generations and preserving the Saudi cultural heritage.
