On Friday, the Saudi Defense Minister, Prince Khalid bin Salman, announced a call with the Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and indicated that he had discussed with him aspects of “military and defense cooperation.” Prince Khalid bin Salman previously wrote on his page on the “X” platform, Twitter: “In a phone call with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, I discussed aspects of military and defense cooperation and joint coordination regarding current developments in the region, in a way that supports regional and international security and stability.”
The Saudi Defense Minister added: “We discussed a number of issues of common interest.” Prince Khalid bin Salman visited the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Monday, accompanied by Pakistani Army Commander Asim Munir and the head of the Turkish Intelligence Service, Ibrahim Kalin, where they held a meeting with high-ranking Iranian officials.
The call comes amid the continued escalation in Yemen between the forces of the internationally recognized government supported by Saudi Arabia and the Houthi forces supported by Iran, and the Houthi group continues to target sensitive areas in the Kingdom.
