A Palestinian was killed and another injured, today, Thursday, by Israeli settlers' bullets during an attack on the village of Yasuf, east of Salfit in the northern West Bank, according to Palestinian officials and the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that Mashhour Shaher Muhammad Yassin (51 years old) was killed by settlers’ bullets in the village, while the Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported that he was shot with live bullets in the abdomen and taken to Salfit Governmental Hospital, where his death was later announced as a result of his injury.
Yasuf Council Chairman Juma Abdel Fattah said that a group of settlers armed with firearms and sticks attacked homes in the eastern area of the village, explaining that Yassin was injured after he went out to defend his home, and his nephew was also slightly injured.
Abdel Fattah added that the attackers came from the "Havat Anton" settlement outpost, which was established about two months ago near the village, noting that settler attacks on Yasuf have been repeated since the establishment of the outpost.
For its part, the Israeli army said that it had opened an investigation into the incident.
The incident comes in light of the escalation of violence in the West Bank, as the United Nations reported that the Israeli army and settlers have killed more than 80 Palestinians since the beginning of 2026.
Violence has escalated in the West Bank since the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. At least 1,112 Palestinians have been killed by bullets from Israeli soldiers or settlers since the outbreak of the war, according to an Agence France-Presse tally based on data from the Palestinian Authority, while the United Nations says that settlers killed at least 37 Palestinians during the same period.
Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967, and about three million Palestinians and more than 500,000 Israeli settlers live there, excluding East Jerusalem. The United Nations and most countries in the world consider Israeli settlements illegal under international law.
